Featured Art — India Purple Poppy

India Purple Poppy artwork — vibrant colored-pencil drawing of a deep purple poppy bloom on a dark background.

About this Poppy from India…

Hello, I’m so glad you joined me in my previous newsletter for the hugely successful Art Show and Sale. I was so excited to see so many of you at the show. The other artists were a select group and unique to their mediums and style of art. I’m soooo looking forward to next year!! (UPDATE 2025 Home Show November 21st, 22nd; Maker's Market November 28th, 29th). I’m also on the lookout for more show opportunities.

The India Purple Poppy art drawing was created, with permission, based on a photo from a floral photography group. This piece is 8x10” .The Giclée Prints are amazing and available on special request.

The poppy symbolizes remembrance and hope for a peaceful future…something we can all use a little more of in these coming years. In the United Kingdom, the purple poppy represents remembrance for the animals, horses, and dogs that died in wars. An interesting little-known fact!

👉 Find this as an 8x10” print on my Greene Sun Art online gallery and is now available as coasters as well.

What I’ve Learned about Flowers

Each petal has a unique and special story to tell…that’s how I see my floral art!

"All petals have a unique story to tell" means that each individual petal on a flower — its shape, color, and arrangement — can be interpreted as part of a larger narrative, representing different aspects of nature, life, or even personal experiences depending on the flower.

For the next four years, let’s keep this inspiration close:

A Little More About Me

My Art Training

I do not have a degree in art, nor do I feel it’s a requirement for anyone interested in trying the process I use. I’ve studied at junior colleges and universities, learned from books, and benefited from many online videos.

One technique I’m still developing is the creation of white florals. They are definitely a challenge! There’s always more to learn.

My fear of color has finally been overcome. For years it inhibited my production, but I discovered a useful tool from Sara Renae Clark: her Color Cubes with 500 color combinations and sample images. After practicing with them, I now confidently find my own exciting color palettes.

In future newsletters, I’ll share more about the process of creating my artwork and about my studio. Stay tuned!

Custom Coaster Printing

If you’d like custom coasters featuring your family, travels, hobbies, or favorite memories, please reach out. I offer custom coaster printing at very reasonable prices! I recently enjoyed showing my daughter, Dreya, how to create her own.
