My Process

Medium

When I find an image that inspires me, I replicate the outline of the image and transfer it to my art paper of choice, often Bristol or Colored Pencil specialty papers depending on the texture and color of paper I desire.

Color & Contrast

With careful consideration, I spend as much time as needed to select just the right colors I’ll be using for each new piece. The colors must complement each other and work well together. Sarah Renae Clark’s coloring cubes have been a godsend. Color combinations were, in the past, reasons to not paint using graphite or pen and ink instead. Shading breathes life into each piece, especially the florals. Each leaf has a unique story to tell. For the background, I often use black (except for the Bird art) as I find it makes the focal point of the piece pop!

Production

I had worked relatively small until I expanded to an 8"x10" larger size. The creation takes longer but even more satisfying when complete. Satisfied with the final result, I have my work professionally photographed and add additional detail that adds another dimension to the original artwork. Upon completion, I choose a name for the piece and find the symbolism behind that name. You'll see these on the back of my Greeting Cards. After touching up any necessary areas, I setup my file and email if off to the printing company. So exciting to pick up the final results.

This process gives me a great deal of pleasure and
I’m finding out how exciting it is to share with others.
