Crocus Gatherer – Instructor Greek Art Coaster — Timeless Elegance
This fresco detail portrays the Instructor from the Crocus Gatherer scene at Akrotiri, guiding young attendants during the ritual saffron harvest. Her poised stance conveys wisdom, tradition, and continuity, underscoring the role of women as both teachers and guardians of ritual practice in the Bronze Age Aegean world.
Saffron, harvested from crocus flowers, was valued for its fragrance, medicinal properties, and use in religious ceremonies. In Minoan and Cycladic culture, it symbolized fertility, health, and divine connection — themes embodied in the instructor’s graceful authority.
The Bronze Age city of Akrotiri on Santorini, Greece, flourished more than 3,600 years ago and was preserved under volcanic ash. Excavations led by Professor Spyridon Marinatos in the late 1960s revealed brilliantly preserved wall paintings, including the Crocus Gatherers fresco, considered one of the most important discoveries in Aegean art.
Among these discoveries, the instructor figure stands out as a symbol of continuity and cultural refinement. Her presence emphasizes the transmission of knowledge across generations, reflecting the artistry and sophistication of Bronze Age Akrotiri.
Printed using dye-sublimation onto durable MDF, the coaster delivers vivid color reproduction with a smooth, glossy finish. Heat-resistant and easy to clean, it is designed for daily use while maintaining its fine-art quality. Beyond serving as a drink accessory, this piece also doubles as miniature framed art, making it a versatile addition to your home décor.
